Our commitment.

The Paddock RV Park is a small family run park, and this is a small website. We want anyone to be able to find our rates, see the sites, get directions and reach us, whatever device or assistive technology they use. Where the site cannot do that, a phone call always can, and somebody answers the phone.

The standard we aim at.

We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.1, at Level AA. That is the standard the Department of Justice and the courts generally look to for websites under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

There is no such thing as ADA certification for a website. No government body issues one, and any badge claiming it carries no legal weight. So we do not claim to be certified. We claim to have built carefully against a published standard, to keep testing, and to fix what we find.

What we have done.

• Every page has a language setting, a descriptive title and a skip link straight to the main content
• Headings run in order, and each page has one main heading, so a screen reader can be used to navigate rather than read straight through
• Everything works by keyboard alone, and the focus outline is visible everywhere, in the park's green
• Text and background colors were checked against the AA contrast minimum, including small print in the footer
• Photographs carry alternative text, and decorative icons are hidden from screen readers so they do not add noise
• There are no forms to fill in anywhere on the site. The contact page lists what to tell us, then calls or emails using your own phone or mail app
• Photographs on the park and home pages open in a larger view. It works by keyboard, moves between photographs with the arrow keys, closes with the Escape key, and puts you back on the photograph you opened it from. With no JavaScript the photograph simply opens on its own
• The embedded map has a title, and the same address is given as plain text with links to Google Maps and Apple Maps
• Layouts reflow down to a phone without a horizontal scroll, and text can be enlarged in the browser without breaking the page
• Page anchors ease into place instead of jumping, and that motion is turned off for anyone whose device asks for reduced motion
• Link text says where it goes, and nothing relies on color alone to carry meaning

If the website does not work for you.

Call (325) 647-5136. We will read out anything on the site, quote you a rate, describe a site and the route in, and take the whole reservation over the phone. There is no part of this website you have to use in order to stay with us, and there is no charge or difference in service for doing it by phone.

If email suits you better, write to sambopruett@gmail.com and say what format works for you. We can send information as plain text in the body of an email rather than as an attachment.

Getting around the park.

This statement covers the website. The park itself is still under construction, and we would rather tell you exactly what to expect than promise something we have not built. Call and ask about the surface of the roads and pads, the route from your site to the laundry, the door and step at the laundry, and how close a vehicle can get. We will describe it honestly and help you pick a site that suits you.
